2010 Southwest Florida Go Red for Woman Luncheon

This event was cause for celebration on Tuesday at The Marco Island Florist, 178 S. Barfield Drive. Christin Collins of Norman Love Confections served heart-healthy and delicious chocolates and cake at the party, hosted by Nancy Carrington, owner of The Marco Island Florist, and Jenny Ann Oister, chair of Southwest Florida Go Red For Women Luncheon. Marco Island Florist is Marco’s exclusive location for Norman Love products, which are new to the Island.

Jennifer Baggett, Regional Director of the American Heart Association, answered questions for those who attended. “For a $125 donation, you get a whole day’s worth of education, fashion and passion, as we call it,” said Baggett.

“We have about 300 people signed up now, and ultimately, we would like to sell out, which would be 700 attending,” said Baggett. “We would like everyone on Marco Island to know that the American Heart Association is here, in the community.”

Jenny Ann Oister became involved with the American Heart Association and the Go Red For Women Luncheon to help others lead a long and healthy life. “Heart disease is the number one killer of women,” says Oister.

Heart disease is the number one threat to women, and silences one in three women, according to American Heart Association statistics. This means that one woman, every minute of every day, dies of heart disease, Baggett stated. “It’s an epidemic we are trying to change, just one woman at a time,” she said.

The Luncheon will be the first time the American Heart Association brings this information to Southwest Florida, and much of it will be presented during two breakout sessions.
