sub-shrub annual

I ran across this interesting sub-shrub annual in P Allen Smith's Garden last September...

Also known as the Cigarette Plant, or Cigar Plant .

The Blooms resemble a "lit cigarette" or "sizzling firecracker"... and the bright red blooms attract hummingbirds, butterflies and, of course.. bees...

A native
of Mexico and the West Indies... it's Latin name ignea... means
Fire...

P.S. Known as Cuphea ignea... we call it the "Firecracker Plant"... BANG!!!!
