Here's some of my Helpful Hydrangea Hints...

Here's some of my Helpful Hydrangea Hints...

I have a row of these beauties growing right outside the uBloom office...

You know that the ph controls the color...
Strongly Acid Soil (ph below 6)... turns them Blue...
Alkaline Soil (ph above 7) ... turns them pink...

My Hints are cut hydrangeas...

1. When cutting from the garden... cut in the early morning when the flowers are
fully hydrated (cutting flowers late in the day causes additional stress that your flowers don't need)....

2. Bring along a bucket of ICE COLD Water... preferably with Rose Pro Hydration... (this get's your hydrangeas started off on the right foot)... going into water immediately after cutting helps them stay hydrated..

3. Cut with a sharp knife... and cut the stem at a 45 degree angle...
(Never SMASH or Split the stem..... this only shreds the vascular system and causes Stress on the flower)

4. NEVER Submerse the blooms in water... this contributes to the growth of Botrytis... a pathogenic fungus... that grows anywhere free water exists... keep your blooms dry... to prevent Botrytis!

5. Use an Anti-Transpirant - Like Chrysal Professional Glory... after arranging your Hydrangea in water with Flower Nutrient... ( I like the Universal Flower Food that comes in the packets from the florist) ... An Anti-Transpirant goes on wet... and dries to seal the flowers... so they won't wilt!

P.S. These are just a few of my tricks that will give you Great Success with Cut Hydrangeas... Enjoy the Holiday!!!
