What Flower is this?

Also known as the "Giant Onion"... this perennial bulb flower is a member of the Onion Family....

It is the tallest member of it's ornamental form of onion... at over a meter... tall intense orbs (umbels) of purple flowers form... later go to seed and turn to attractive fruited umbels...

This Flower has been granted the Royal Horticulture Societies award of Garden Merit...

Smaller varieties exist in both purple and white... and have the nickname of "drumstick" rather and "Giganteum".

Admitting a sweet fragrance... rather than of an onion... they are attractive additions to garden as well as a functional and long lasting cut flower!
