Flower of the Week

BANKSIA

There are 173 Banksia species, and all but one only occur naturally in Australia. Banksias were named after Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820 ), who in 1770, was the first European to collect specimens of these plants. These popular Australian wildflowers are easily recognized by their characteristic flower spikes and fruity coneheads. They are generally found in a wide variety of Australian landscapes and are known to be a real survivor in the Australian outback. Nowadays we just love the exotic Banksia, it always puts flowers and bouquets in a beautiful perspective!
